In a recent initiative to strengthen the presence of Ceylon Tea in the UK, Sri Lanka embarked on a comprehensive promotional campaign with the goal of increasing awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of the remarkable heritage behind this iconic beverage. By actively engaging with key stakeholders and utilizing diverse platforms, Sri Lanka’s dedicated efforts have successfully propelled Ceylon Tea to unprecedented heights in the British market.

One of the pivotal moments in this endeavour was the afternoon tea event organized at the Terrace Pavilion, Palace of Westminster, during the visit of Foreign Minister Ali Sabry to the United Kingdom. Attended by over 60 distinguished guests, including Members of Parliament, UK government officials, and representatives of the tea trade, this event served as a platform to showcase the unparalleled quality and diversity of Ceylon Tea. Through captivating presentations and discussions led by experts such as Mr. Suranaga James Perera of the UK Tea Academy, attendees were immersed in the fascinating story behind Ceylon Tea, tracing its origins from the lush tea plantations of Sri Lanka to its esteemed status as one of the world’s finest teas.

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry underscored the significance of Ceylon Tea in the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the UK, emphasizing its role as a symbol of shared history and economic partnership. Minister Sabry’s sentiments were echoed by Minister for International Trade Nigel Huddleston, who highlighted the burgeoning bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic sphere.
