Tea and Orange Chocolate Truffles Recipe

ceylon tea and orange chocolate truffles

Ingredients:

For the Truffle Mixture:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea leaves or 2 black tea bags
  • Zest of one orange
  • 12 ounces (about 340g) dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • Pinch of salt

For Coating:

  • Cocoa powder, powdered sugar, or finely chopped nuts for rolling

Instructions:

  1. Infuse Cream with Black Tea:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just starts to simmer. Remove from heat and add the loose black tea leaves or tea bags. Let it steep for 5-7 minutes to infuse the cream with the black tea flavor. Strain the tea leaves or remove the tea bags, and return the infused cream to the heat.
  2. Melt Chocolate:
    • Place the finely chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot infused cream over the chocolate and let it sit for a minute to melt the chocolate. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add Butter and Flavorings:
    • Add the softened butter, orange zest, and a pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture. Stir until the butter is fully melted and incorporated. The mixture should be smooth and glossy.
  4. Chill the Mixture:
    • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the chocolate mixture for at least 2-3 hours, or until it becomes firm enough to handle.
  5. Shape the Truffles:
    • Once the chocolate mixture is chilled, use a spoon or a melon baller to scoop out small portions. Roll each portion between your hands to form smooth truffle balls. Place the shaped truffles on a parchment-lined tray.
  6. Coat the Truffles:
    • Roll each truffle in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, or finely chopped nuts to coat evenly. Place the coated truffles back on the tray.
  7. Chill Again (Optional):
    • For a firmer texture, you can refrigerate the coated truffles for an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  8. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Arrange the Black Tea and Orange Chocolate Truffles on a serving plate or in small paper cups.
  9. Store:
    • Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be kept for up to a week.

The combination of bold black tea, citrusy orange, and dark chocolate creates a luxurious treat for chocolate enthusiasts. Feel free to experiment with different coatings or add a touch of orange liqueur for an extra layer of flavor. Adjust sweetness and intensity according to your taste preferences.
